But how does it do so? Every facet of human interaction and personal exchange, whether it's the disputes we have with each other or within ourselves, is explained and defined in this love chapter. There is no better-known piece of biblical literature than St. Paul's description of our everyday human experience found in 1 Corinthians Chapter Thirteen. Our struggles, jealousies, malice, and deep-seated discontent are all dissected and analyzed in this psychological examination of the human condition. It dismantles the theories of Freud, Jung, and Erickson. We, as a species, are foolish to try to define the human person without considering God. We are not merely sexual or social creatures driven by conformity, habit, and comfort. We are not Pavlovian in our desires and cravings. The natural world cannot define the beauty, symmetry, and perfection found in the ideals and aspirations placed by the Creator. Who are the fools in this generation interpreting the ink blots and shadows in the mind, the realities of an unknown future? Shadows are not reality. Perception is not concrete. The shame of your past is not reality, and the blame we place on the aggressor is also not reality. We have interpreted our personal tragedies in light of current circumstances. We should not give our experiences such authority. The only measurement by which to judge is the benchmark of God's unconditional love shown at the cross. When perfection comes, then the partial will pass away, ὅταν δὲ ἔλθῃ τὸ τέλειον, τὸ ἐκ μέρους καταργηθήσεται (1 Cor 13: 10).
