City of Faith: Smyrna

Like a master craftsman shaping precious materials with expert precision, we are called to be "God's fellow workers" (1 Corinthians 3:9), diligently crafting the future He has ordained. As it is written in Exodus 31:3-4: "And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills — to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze."

This divine craftsmanship requires unwavering dedication, as we add countless hours of painstaking detail to a plan that isn't merely laid before us, but is etched deep within our souls, for "I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts" (Jeremiah 31:33).

This is more than just implementing a plan - it is the faithful execution of God's perfect will, like skilled artisans building the tabernacle according to the exact specifications given by the Lord. As Paul reminds us in Colossians 3:23-24: "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, knowing that from the Lord you will receive an inheritance as your reward." We press forward without hesitation, repetition, or deviation, exceeding all expectations, for "we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:10).

ECCLESIAL ARCHETYPE: Interpretation

"Each of you has an interpretation" (1 Corinthians 14:26) speaks to our collective responsibility in discerning God's will. As Solomon wrote, "Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed" (Proverbs 15:22). Through open dialogue and spiritual discernment, we seek clarity on the steps we must take in obedience to the heavenly vision, just as Paul testified, "I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision" (Acts 26:19).

In making room for the execution of God's will, we must trust His timing, for "He has made everything beautiful in its time" (Ecclesiastes 3:11). What we do now in faith, guided by the Holy Spirit, others may not immediately comprehend. As Jesus said, "What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand" (John 13:7). This principle is further reinforced in Isaiah 55:8-9: "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."

In the divine hermeneutic (hermēneuō), we are called to be faithful interpreters and executors of God's revealed plan. Like skilled translators who bridge languages with precision, we must meticulously render heaven's blueprint into earthly reality. As it is written in Habakkuk 2:2: "Then the LORD answered me and said: 'Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it.'" This divine interpretation isn't merely academic exegesis, but a living execution of God's eternal counsel, manifested through the ages by His appointed servants.

Prosphile

This is Gabriel, the mighty archangel who stands at the right hand side of the altar of incense, as referenced in Luke 1:19: "I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God." He is charged with executing God's will, as demonstrated when he announced to Mary: "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you" (Luke 1:35). His announcements serve as what Paul describes in 2 Corinthians 2:15-16: "For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ... To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life."

Through his ministry, Gabriel restores confidence and faith, embodying what Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 1:7: "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." His presence serves as a reminder of God's promise in Isaiah 41:10: "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."

Gnósis

This is not merely theoretical head knowledge that puffs up, as Paul warns in 1 Corinthians 8:1 - "Knowledge puffs up while love builds up." Rather, it is like the healing leaves described in Revelation 22:2 - "The leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations," transforming the world around us closer into the image of God as it was from the beginning.

It is knowledge that aligns with James 1:22 - "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." This practical wisdom doesn't get in the way of obedience but rather enhances it, serving as a preset, active indication of God's presence, much like Solomon describes in Proverbs 2:6: "For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding."

As demonstrated in Daniel 1:17, "To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning," this divine knowledge enables us to be effective instruments of God's purpose in the world. It manifests as both understanding and action, reflecting Colossians 1:9-10: "We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way."

GENIUS: Execution

"If I have all faith to move mountains" (1 Corinthians 13:2) - This speaks of one who faithfully comes alongside to execute God's divine plan. As described in Hebrews 1:1-2, God has communicated His will "at many times and in various ways... through the prophets" and ultimately "by his Son." This divine communication comes through angels (as with Daniel in Daniel 9:21-22), through prophetic visions (Acts 10:9-16), through dreams (as with Joseph in Matthew 1:20), through the incarnation of Christ (John 1:14), and through the giving of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:17).

This enabling power equips the ecclesia (the church) to "lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us" (Hebrews 12:1) and to "run with endurance the race that is set before us" (Hebrews 12:1-2). As Paul affirms in Philippians 2:13, "for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure."
