Doc Rivers is a former professional basketball player and current head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA. Rivers was born on October 13, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois. He played college basketball at Marquette University and was drafted in the second round of the 1983 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks.

Rivers played for four different teams during his playing career, which spanned from 1983 to 1996. He is perhaps best known for his time with the Hawks and the New York Knicks. After retiring as a player, Rivers became a coach and has been coaching in the NBA since 1999.
