Biblical Perspective of Israel’s Post-Independence Wars

Israel must be fully 100% Israel, so the Nations can be fully 100% the Nations.

There are times like this in the history of every people. We did not ask for this, but our enemies left us without a choice. And if force will prevail, then it is our force which will prevail” - Ben Gurion in ‘Israel Fights, p. 53. 1948.

[Editor’s note: The birth of modern Israel is significant, but its greatest contribution to world civilisation varies. Some point to innovative scientific breakthroughs, others to social justice and equality commitments, or its rich cultural heritage impacting arts, literature, and music. Regardless, Israel's influence is undeniable and will continue to shape human history.]

Title of Lecture: Biblical Perspective of Israel’s post-independence wars

Biblical Perspective of Israel's Post-Independence Wars (Prof Yeo Swee Ping)

Topic of Q & A

Arab-Israeli conflict

About the Speaker: Prof Yeo Swee Ping is currently retired after an NUS career spanning more than 40 years. He used to apply his research skills towards discovering God's scientific truths in electromagnetics (which were completely unknown to mankind until a mathematician unsuspectingly stumbled upon their existence in 1885) and microwaves (which remained in total obscurity until military engineers frantically developed radar for detecting Hitler's planes in WW2). Nowadays, his focus of research is on what God disclosed to mankind in the Bible. His stand on various Christian issues is evident from the 14 blog articles he has thus far posted at https://microwaveprof.blogspot.com/

Seven Questions on the Arab-Israeli conflict to be explored in today’s lecture by Prof Yeo Swee Ping:

Q1: Who actually owns the Promised Land?

Q2: Will the current war lead to the end of the world as already forewarned by Jesus that “… you will hear of wars and rumours of wars” (Matthew 24:6)?

Q3: Why is Israel still claiming the Promised Land to be theirs (after having been scattered for 2 millennia)? The Lord made a covenant with Abram, “To your descendants I have given this land …” (Genesis 15: 18) but the Israelites had since breached the covenant.

Q4: Was 1948 indeed the divinely-ordained year for the Israelites to return to the Promised Land? After all, Jesus already warned twice in the end-times book of Revelation about “… those who say they are Jews and are not …”

Q5: Is it morally acceptable for Israel to retaliate when attacked? After all, we are told that “God is love” (I John 4:16) as well as “merciful, gracious and long-suffering” (Exodus 34:6).

Q6: Why couldn’t Israel co-exist with the other resident tribes in the Promised Land?

Q7: Do scriptures record incidents of “anti-semitism” (which is a phrase coined in 1873 by a German activist)?

Two most important dates in your life: the date of your birth and the date when you realise your calling in life. We know Israel’s date of birth as a modern state but what do you think is Israel's single greatest contribution to world civilisation?
