Serving leadership is the practice of leaders who are actively engaged in the well-being of their stakeholders, staff, students and faculty members seeking to create a positive and productive learning environment. It involves a commitment to sobriety and clear-headedness on the part of management, who must be able to make decisions that benefit the organization as a whole. Additionally, serving leadership emphasises the value of gifted individuals within the organization, recognising that everyone has unique talents and strengths that can be harnessed for the collective good.

The farmer has an important role to play when it comes to soil management. There are several factors that the farmer can consider when working to increase the chances of a good yield. One such factor is changing the culture of the seed-bed. This can involve a variety of techniques, such as crop rotation and the use of cover crops. Additionally, the farmer can choose to use organic or synthetic fertilisers to enrich the soil. It is also important for the farmer to monitor the health of the soil over time, and to make changes as needed to maintain its fertility. By taking a proactive approach to soil management, the farmer can help to ensure a successful harvest year after year.

This means understanding what motivates us, what makes us tick, and what ticks us off. By leveraging our purpose and aligning our people, we can awaken the potential within our organization and create a culture of excellence. The theory of serving leadership is an important framework that can help organisations navigate complex and sometimes pressing transitions. It provides a vocabulary to better understand giftedness in individuals who are closest to the core and most responsible for outcomes even when they are approaching the challenge from different directions with different attitudes and agendas.
