Family360 is a call to build into Kingdom foundations that would endure into the Millennial Reign. The first map was developed in 2016 and refined in 2017 in focus groups. This third version has been fully revised to include global trends of the past 7 years.
Introduction to the Family360 Wall
In the teachings of Rev Paul Khoo, a Kingdom witness, he lays emphasis on the importance of understanding our core identity and discerning our purpose. This perspective is particularly relevant when we address the widespread issue of fatherlessness. In many ways, fatherlessness can be perceived as a disconnection or even loss of identity and purpose. As a seminary, our vision is not merely to educate in a conventional sense but to facilitate a profound discovery process where gifted individuals can unearth their inherent genius. This is a journey of self-realization that instills a strong sense of identity and purpose, filling the void that fatherlessness often creates.
Our vision aligns directly with the Life Impact statement's emphasis on defining the ground of our being. Life Impact is about understanding our inherent worth and the unique role we each play within the interconnected tapestry of life. By helping individuals discover their genius, we are essentially helping them to understand their intrinsic value and their unique contribution to the world, thereby defining the ground of their being.
Rev Khoo also emphasizes the significant role of the ecclesia in society, particularly in discerning and responding appropriately to God's moves in new seasons. This perspective mirrors our commitment as a seminary to guide and facilitate the journey of faith communities towards their ultimate goal - being Kingdom witnesses. It is not enough to merely exist in a community; we must actively participate and contribute to its development. By addressing issues such as fatherlessness, we are actively shaping society, embodying Kingdom values, and manifesting God's love in the places where we have been planted.
In his work, "Prism of Time," Rev Khoo discusses the importance of being prepared for the changing seasons of life. This teaching further reinforces our commitment to equip communities to adapt and respond to societal challenges like fatherlessness. The emphasis on faith, hope, and love in action is a call for communities of faith to not just believe in change but to be the catalysts of that change. This involves embodying the love and hope of the Kingdom in their actions and responding to issues such as fatherlessness not only with words but with tangible, impactful actions.
In summary, Rev Paul Khoo's teachings provide a high-level strategic vision and understanding of the cosmic spiritual battlegrounds and the role of the ecclesia for the end times. However, beyond the grand scale of his vision, his teachings also resonate on a deeply personal level. “A hurricane making landfall pushes along a huge swell of water that can be as destructive as its unrelenting winds. Family is likewise encompassed by a perfect storm of social, economic and ideological winds and waves. While practical limitations may lead us to focus time and attention on single issues, we need insights into the systemic forces at work to help organize and anchor ourselves and others, and overcome the storm.
From a macro perspective, ‘fatherlessness’ is at the heart of many social issues. Family is meant to be an environment of safety and nurture for us to develop relationally, especially children. But this can turn out very differently due to human failings and life circumstances. Family dysfunction produces hurt and rejection which in turn causes the loss of a sense of belonging and identity, leading many to seek validation in other places.
Today, a ‘fatherless’ generation is being swept up by ideological winds. These offer the illusion of an alternative society organised around sexual identity instead of the nurture of children. Society becomes untethered from natural laws governing the biological imprinting of sex and gender, and the protective institutions of marriage and family.
This ultimately serves to unravel the very fabric of Family that has enabled us all to be here. Restoration begins with rebuilding an understanding of family foundations, and recovering the keys for human formation. When families, communities and nations develop a culture of relationality – of hearts opened and turned to one another – the entire ecosystem of Family thrives.
This is the intended design for Family that goes beyond individual well-being, to support a wealth of human flourishing that exemplifies heaven on earth.
The Family360 Wall is a tool designed to raise awareness of the societal, economic, and ideological issues affecting families. It focuses on seven key areas of influence: Media & Technology, Arts & Ideology, Civil Society, Government & Law, Business & Finance, Education & Research, and Family. These areas, identified by Christian pioneers in the 1980s, have evolved over time and are now threatened by various social changes. The Family360 Wall aims to encourage inquiry, prayer, and action to counter these threats and uphold the family's central role in society.
It is a snapshot of where these waves affect generational families across these spheres of influence. In contrast to the 37 current and emerging waves, some family & fathering movements are seeking to address these issues.
